Herpes Zoster Herpes

Herpes Zoster Herpes

Herpes Zoster also known as Shingles is an infection caused by varicella-zoster

virus, the same virus that causes chickenpox. This virus even after causing chickenpox might stay in the nervous system for many years and then causing shingles. Royal Hairnic centre has been helping individuals with this condition by providing the best medical care at a really affordable cost.

SYMPTOMS:

The signs or symptoms include pain and burning in the affected area which is mostly one side of the body and just a small area.

  • 1. Early symptoms can be fever, headache but not necessarily related to shingles but can lead to burning sensations or pain in the affected areas starting with a rash.
  • 2. The rash may turn red after a few days of pain-causing itching.
  • 3. The pain and rash occur mostly on the torso but can appear on the eyes, face and other parts of the body.
  • 4. A blistering rash may be caused around eyes on eyelids or forehead leading to pain or throbbing in your eye. Shingles of the eye can cause serious problems if left untreated.
  • 5. Rashes can occur close to the ear and can cause an infection which might lead to hearing loss.

DIAGNOSIS:

Royal Hairnic has been treating such cases with impeccable success rate and diagnosis forming a major step in stopping the furtherance of the infection in the affected area.

  • 1. If the rash is visible then just a visual examination by the dermatologist is enough to proceed further with the treatment.
  • 2. In case the rash is absent then further laboratory tests are prescribed, and every such test is provided at Royal Hairnic in house.
  • 3. In rare cases, a sample of the skin is taken for examination to confirm the presence of the virus.

IS IT CONTAGIOUS?

Shingles is not contagious but the varicella-zoster virus can be passed on from a person with shingles to others who are not immune to chickenpox causing chickenpox but not shingles.

Hence if you are infected with shingles it is better to stay away from people who haven’t had chickenpox vaccine or anyone with a weak immune system or pregnant women.

TREATMENT

The primary aim is to limit the pain and itching and reduce complications of the condition.

  • 1. Topical medical applications may be prescribed to reduce pain and provide a soothing effect on the affected area.
  • 2. Antiviral drugs also may be an option to reduce the duration and severity of the condition.
  • 3. Medications are prescribed so as to not let the condition reoccur in individuals. Royal Hairnic doctors provide the best medication keeping the chances of reoccurring to a minimum.
  • 4. There is no cure for shingles but getting medical help as soon as possible can help in keeping the duration and pain of the condition to a minimum.

Some people may not experience severe symptoms but for a few, it can be very painful. And for some people even without a visible rash, pain can be severe. Hence getting medical help as soon as possible is very important in dealing with the infection with minimal discomfort and Royal Hairnic has been providing such help to the individuals that reach out to us.
